Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
How to pay the tuition?
A:
After register classes for your children, please review the
"Payment" menu item, then print out the registration form.
You need bring this form along with a check pay to "Xilin
NW Chinese School" on the first day of school.
Q: What
kind of Chinese textbooks or curricular
materials does the Xilin North Education center
use?
A: We
use textbooks and curricular materials published
by Univ. of JiNan, China. It is the same serial
materials used by other Xilin Chinese Schools. It
is very convenient for parent to switch the school
and still keep up with consistent and seamless
curricular study.
Q:
My
child will be 5 years old in Oct, is she eligible
for Kindergarten class?
A:
Our
recommended age for Kindergarten class is 5 years
old. However, it is not a strict cut off line. It
should really depend on your children's
linguistic
level in Chinese and their maturity. The only one
concern we have is the balance of maintaining the
integrity of the classroom and teaching pace.
But in general, if she is 2 month younger from 5
years old and she could fully understand and
listen to Chinese, we don't see
any problem for her registering in this class.
Q: My
kid speaks English at school and ShangHai Dialect
at home most of time, which class should I
register her in?
A: The
first recommendation is our Bilingual class
because these classes use English as the basic
communication tool and gradually introduce
Chinese. The Kindergarten class uses the opposite
method. We use Chinese as the main language and
combined with English explanation.
However, it is also based on her Chinese
listening skills and her personality. If she
understands basic daily Chinese in PuTongHua, but
she just does not get
enough opportunity to practice, you could also try
Kindergarten class. The good part of school policy
is that in the first week, you could consider
switching class if the class is not full to
provide parent and children better choices.
Q: My
kid is very active, I am not very sure that she is
able to sit straight for a 2 hours Chinese Class,
do you have any suggestion?
A:
General
speaking, the concentration time periods for kids
younger than age 7 are very short. Usually it is
about 15 minutes. It is very common at this age.
All of our teachers for this age group are
extremely experienced dealing with this situation.
The design of these classes is tailored for their
specific age needs. The teacher will have various
activities to entertain the kids like singing,
dancing, stretching, game, drawing, group-activity
combined with core Chinese content. None of the
same topics will be last longer than their
tolerance of concentration. That is a big
advantage your kids will get from our school.
Q:
I
have a child who will be at grade 7 in English
school this fall. I am not sure if he/she should
be in Algebra class (7-8 grade) or in SAT I class?
A:
You
can try either one of the classes. In general, the
Algebra class (7-8 grade) will provide the students with more systematical materials in
Algebra, while the SAT I class will focus more on
the SAT questions and related techniques. It will
not provide systematic teaching, although many
important topics will be reviewed.
Q:
How
do you handle the situation in the SAT or ACT math
classes where there are students from different
grades and at different levels?
A:
The
materials designed in the math classes will take
into consideration the mixture of students with
different backgrounds. For each topic to be
covered in the class, it is tried to provide with
students with three levels of information: basics
techniques, extended techniques, and relatively
challenge techniques.
Q:
I am interested in attending both
the Chinese class and math classes for my child,
but found the time conflict between the classes.
What should I do?
A:
Register both for now, it might be get re-arranged
depending on the registration result.
